The purpose of social media is to keep you hooked. The never-ending scrolling A never-ending barrage of notifications. The low-risk appeal of downloading an app. It everything works together to draw you in and hold your attention for longer than a harmless diversion.
If you’re ready to unplug but don’t want to completely disconnect, Facebook has a built-in function called Quiet Mode that can help you limit your time on the network.
To get started, go to Settings & privacy > Settings, then choose Your Time on Facebook under the Preferences section of the mobile app’s hamburger menu.
See How Much Time You Spend on Facebook
What percentage of your time do you spend on Facebook? If you’re really curious, go to the Your Time on Facebook page and tap See Time.
Several graphs are available here that indicate app usage in a similar manner to Apple’s Screen Time. Swipe the screen to see how much time has passed, how many times you’ve accessed the app in the previous week, and how much time has passed.
Enable Weekly Update, which will send you a weekly email assessing your Facebook usage from the previous seven days, if you just want to be vigilant of your usage and not do anything. You may also check all of your recent actions on the platform by tapping Activity Log.
Set a Reminder for Every Day
On the Your Time on Facebook page, tap the See Tools button to begin making changes to your Facebook usage. You may ease into it by setting a timer to remind you to stop using the app after a certain length of time.
Enable Daily Time Reminder at the bottom of the Manage Your Time tab, and then set the timer to a specified number of hours and minutes. The app will tell you how much time you spend on average each day, so you may set the timer to be less than that. Set a reminder, then keep using the app until the timer runs out.
Quiet Mode should be enabled
Quiet Mode is here to assist you in reducing your Facebook usage. This function will mute push notifications to your phone, limit the number of notification dots that appear in the app, and prevent you from using the app the next time you open it if it is enabled. From the Manage Your Time screen, enable Quiet Mode and then specify how long you want it to stay on.
Quiet Mode can also be set to turn on at a specified time each day. Enable Scheduled Quiet Mode, then touch Add Schedule to specify the start and stop times, as well as the days when the function should be used. To delete or redo a schedule, click Delete Schedule.
Control the Quiet Mode
When you access the app while in Quiet Mode, you’ll see a reminder that tells you how much time you have left.
If you truly need to use the app, go to Manage Quiet Mode and choose to either end Quiet Mode right away or obtain a 15-minute reprieve before returning to your self-imposed exile. Alter the way Quiet Mode works for you by selecting Edit Settings.
